Michaela Luera '22 Recruiting Profile

My name is Michaela Luera and my plan is to go to a good college where I can get a great education to pursue my career goal of becoming a Coach.  I would love to play basketball after college as well.   I always try to have a good attitude towards everyone.  I consider myself very coachable.  I listen to instruction and criticism and do what I can to take the feedback and improve.  I also know that my academics are important so I strive to be successful in the classroom as well as on the court.  I have had to work hard to overcome confidence issues and being overlooked.  Because of the many challenges I have had to face and overcome, I know that if given the opportunity, I can compete at the next level and help my team be successful.  I have worked very hard to develop my skills so that I am able to compete and I am now sharing my knowledge with some Middle School players that I have started to train and coach.  

I love being able to mentor others!!  It gives me an opportunity to share my experiences and help them overcome obstacles and challenges.  I teach my trainees that hard work does pay off and to never give up.  I share my struggles in mastering certain skills so they know they are not alone and that if they stick with something, it will pay off in the end.  Being a great leader is important to me because I have seen plenty of not so great leaders and have learned what it takes to be a great leader and what kind of leader I want to be.  I lead now by setting good examples and being a positive role model for my teammates and the MS players I coach.  I also show them that what they do off the court is just as important as what they do on the court.  

I know that with these experiences and those I gain in college, it will help me become the kind of coach and mentor I want to be and the kind of Coach that kids will be able to learn from and help them become successful!!
