My name is Hodge’Nay Henderson, and although I’ve been playing basketball for 8 years now, my passion for the game came from sitting in the stands cheering my older siblings on as they competed all year round dominating their opponents. The joy that I felt in those moments fueled my passion for the game, and here we are.
I am a multi-sport athlete, who loves competing. My basketball journey began in the 4th grade on an AAU team and now I am a senior in high school who's developed even more passion for the game. Over the years, I have had the pleasure of learning different styles of the game by being coached and trained by some amazing people, who have tested me and pushed me beyond my limits. Like other athletes, I have faced many challenges, but none of them were enough to break me. Those challenges only molded me into the player I am today. Those challenges taught me about never giving up, commitment, loyalty, responsibility, mental toughness, and grit.
Who am I? Well, I'm glad you asked! I am an all-around player, who knows what it is to play a team sport or be a part of a "Family". I have great court vision, with great passing abilities and am always looking for ways to get my teammates involved. I have strong defensive skills and am often referred to as a player who loves playing "Bully Ball". I have strong ball handling skills and won't hesitate to drive on a player. I am also an outside shooter with great range. But that's not all…
I am more than just an athlete. I have maintained above a 3.5 GPA throughout my time in school. I became a member of the National Honor Society in elementary and have maintained my membership throughout high school. I am also a member of my youth group at church. I have spent several hours volunteering and helping those in need. One of the most pivotal moments for me was our mission trip to Kentucky this year. We partnered with many others to bring relief and Christmas to those who were affected by the flood. It taught me about unity and compassion, and how people from all different walks of life can rally together in times of adversity and spread love.
My plan is to attend a college that will allow me to continue my journey as a student-athlete. Allowing me to pursue my nursing degree, while continuing to play the game I love.
