Hi, my name is Ihnera (I-nera) Gerongay. I'm going to enter my junior year at University High School. I have been playing golf since I was three and have started to compete at the age of 4. This golf journey of mine was introduced by my older sister who I watched throughout her high school and college career. This was the root of my interest in playing at a college level.
Golfing throughout the years has caused me to recognize prominent characteristics of who I am as a player. Honestly, golf used to have a mental toll on me as your mentality throughout a four hour game is extremely significant. Now, I've learned to control and manage my mentality and emotions by quickly moving on to the next shot. In addition, I've learned that I am rarely satisfied with my end score even if I score in the 70s. I am self critical which may appear as a weakness, but in reality it pushes me to work harder to improve different aspects of my game.
Where I hope to see myself at a college level is to be part of a team with the same drive and work ethic that also focuses on mental game. Outside of golf, I hope to be at a school that can provide a solid education in the medical field.
I am a solid candidate for a college golf team as my scores would benefit the team score (based on the college level). Also, I can easily connect with other players in terms of golf and at a personal level. Overall, I'm willing to keep working to improve and bring a positive attitude to the golf environment.
