Hi coaches! My name is Kate Moorhouse and I want to play college hockey while excelling academically.
I really love playing hockey! I have been skating since I was 2 and loved it so much that I cried when I had to get off the ice after my first skating lesson. My passion really blossomed when I geared up for my first hockey season at 8 years old. Currently, I am on the U18 A hockey team (the highest team within my club) with the Vancouver Female Minor Hockey Association. Throughout my hockey career, I have consistently made the Rep team, and for my second U15 season played up on the U18 A team, where I played on both the powerplay and penalty kill.
This past season was extremely successful for my team and me, playing 57 games with only 3 losses, including 3 tournament sweeps to attain gold, winning our playoff banner, and coming in 3rd in provincials.
I participate in many spring and summer training programs and camps, constantly striving to improve my skills. This spring I participated in power skating, a development camp, an association-run spring program, and even played on a spring field hockey team. To continue my training into the summer I attended the West Coast Prep Camp, power skating, association-run development sessions, a 7-week summer program that includes both on-ice and off-ice training as well as mental skills and classroom sessions, development sessions run by former college and NHL players, and pre-season scrimmages.
As a player, I pride myself on being a coachable, and enthusiastic teammate, who competes every time I go on the ice, whether it be a practice or a game.
Not only am I competitive on the ice, but also in the classroom. I am a self-motivated, high achiever, who strives for top grades. I am an active participant in my school community, with many extracurriculars such as the JV Basketball team, and the book club. This coming school year I hope to make both the Varsity Field Hockey team and the Varsity Basketball team.
Giving back to my community has always been important to me. When I am not busy at various games, practices, or finishing my homework, I enjoy volunteering as an assistant ice hockey coach for other young girls. I strive to be a role model to younger girls, just getting into hockey, empowering them, and helping them be the best versions of themselves, on and off the ice.
