~~Hi my name is Vicki, I am 17 years old and a junior at Bishop Guertin High school. Hockey is basically my life, i do not think i could enjoy anything else as much as i enjoy playing hockey. I know most 'hockey kids' have been playing hockey since they were around two years old but i did not start till i was around 8. My brother and sister never played hockey growing up, but my dad has played in a men’s league for as long as i can remember and after watching him play i asked if i could try it. My mom is the manager of a dance studio, and my sister has always been a dancer and my brother always played baseball, football, and basketball. My first sports were dance, soccer and softball, so hockey was a completely new and unusual sport to the family, i tried it and i fell in love with it right away. I am crazy about hockey and my goals have always been to pursue it to the highest level i can achieve. I am dedicated and hard working and i am willing to do whatever it takes to get faster, stronger, better and i am willing to do whatever it takes to be able to play hockey at higher levels.
I did say hockey is my life but there is more to me than just skates on ice. Growing up i loved not only sports but also school. I have always been hard working when it comes to academics, i always seem to be hard on myself when it comes to grades, sometimes even maybe too hard on myself. School has always been an important part of my life i have always loved school, and learning since i started attending school. From kindergarten to 8th grade i attended public school in my home town of Dracut Ma. I switched to a private school for high school which was a hard adjustment, having to leave all my friends to make new ones. Hockey helped me throughout my school life having hockey pushes me to strive for good grades. i know that if i do bad in school i cannot play so it pushes me to stay focused. Hockey has also helped me to make many of my greatest friends these reason also make me want to peruse hockey in a higher level, it will help me keep focused in college and help me make new friends at which ever college i attend.
Lastly i would like to say a little about who i am as a person, a friend, and a player. to be honest i am pretty quiet and to myself until i am truly comfortable with the people i am with; however, i am just a really goofy kid, i love making people laugh and having fun is very important to me. i love kids i am great with kids and i really enjoy being with them. Helping people is also something i love, my mother and i started a charity for children in foster care called read to succeed. i love my family and spending time with them has always been extremely important to me.as a player i take hockey very seriously and sometimes i am much too hard on myself, i often lack confidence in myself about my hockey ability but i am working on being more confident on the ice.
hockey has done a lot for me over the years, it helps me stay focused on school, it helps me make new friends, its made me more confident, and hockey is always there for me to make me feel better if i am sad, stressed or angry, i really hope to continue playing hockey for as long as i can, it is a really important part of my life and i am working as hard as i can to keep hockey in my life.
