My name is Ivy Dietrich and I am a sophomore at Faith Lutheran High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. My goal is to play hockey in college. I thrive on hard work, training, music, and laughter with my friends . I have always loved athletics. I was a competitive swimmer for several years, played a little soccer, golf, and BMX. I love my dog like he is my brother, I have a large extended family, and I love riding horses.
I am active in several extracurricular activities at my school. I belong to the Fine Arts Academy, Marching Band as a snare drummer, Concert Band, Varsity Track, and the Flight Program. I played hockey for Faith Lutheran Middle School and High School in their inaugural season. They did not allow girls to play on the team in the preceding season. I was forced to find an alternative team. Las Vegas did not have a local club team suitable in my age group. I landed on a 16u AA Tier II girls team in California. Traveling back and forth to California nearly every weekend proved to be challenging in my studies and keeping up with training for hockey. I am proud to say that I had my best season of hockey to date while maintaining a 3.8 GPA.
Hockey brings great joy to my heart. I encourage my teammates by setting a good example. I believe my positive attitude rallies my team to do their best and to work as hard as they can every time we step on the ice. I really enjoy playing the game with the girls on my team, we have a quite a special bond.
The battle to allow girls on my school team is still ongoing. Things happen for a reason, as they say. I believe I was meant to search out an all girls team in California. This struggle with my school team opened my eyes to the real world. I have developed good relationships with the coaches that I train with in Las Vegas. I have learned to fight for what I believe in, to be prepared, ask for help when I need it, and most importantly thank the people that have helped me.
