Personal Statement

I have always loved playing sports. I love competing and having the physical challenge to go along with my academic challenge, it feels like a balance. I also would love to be part of a team in college, like a family, it is a group I can be part of. I think to be part of team in college would give me a lot of pride and a purpose that would be bigger than me.

As a Goalkeeper and the Stroke seat in the boat, I think it is important to not just be your best but to also help your teammates. On the field and in the boat I try to set the example by pushing myself to be at my best. I also try to encourage my teammates, to keep them positive. As a keeper, when a goal gets scored, I try to make sure my back line lets it go and stays positive. In the Boat, if we give up a lead I try to support my Coxswain and the 8 in the boat and keep everyone upbeat.

Off the field, I think it is important to build a bond with my teammates. I try to make sure we are having fun. I also like to spend time with each of them so that I get to know who they are and what their goals are. In Choir, I will often set up a lunch together just so we can bond as a team.

Sports have been a big part of my life. I have been injured a few times and have learned during recovery the importance of overcoming challenges and overcoming pain and how I can be stronger by coming back. I also think that I try to be my best. I am very competitive and always want to win and be the best at what I do. That said,  I can only control my best and that I need to focus not on wins and losses but how I prepare and the effort I put in. I also think I keep a balance between all of my activities from academics, to clubs and groups, my friends and sports. To do everything I do, I believe a healthy athletic performance requires taking care of yourself: eat right, hydrate, sleep and exercise.

I am involved in Lyons Club locally and I also do goalkeeper training for local younger soccer players. I am involved in Club Soccer, High School Soccer, Chamber Choir and Concert Choir. These are important to me because I like to be involved in my community and I enjoy seeing different parts of my community through that involvement.
