Personal Statement
After being a competitive swimmer for six years, I decided to try something new and joined the high school crew team. I went to their summer camp and to my surprise, I was hooked. By the end of my Freshman year, I became the Varsity 8 stroke, went to Southwest Regionals and Scholastic Nationals, and was given the Coach's Choice Award. I have worked my entire life to be a strong athlete, but nothing has ever compared to the passion, drive, and love I have for rowing. I left my high school team with a 7:53 2k Pr, after deciding I wanted to achieve more at a higher level. I joined San Diego Rowing Club and was honored after months of training to be one of 16 girls attending the Head of the Charles in the Quad. After that, I have become stronger despite the challenge and difficulty rowing has to offer. Rowing has provided me with a balance to offset my type1 diabetes, and my overwhelming urge to go fast. Before the Corona Virus outbreak, I left the season with a 7:33.1 2k, 20 seconds faster than the year before and a 20:06 5k. Even though the virus has prematurely ended the 2019-2020 season, I saved up and purchased an ergometer to continue high intensity training. I cannot wait to be a part of an amazing college team, giving 110% on every row, erg, workout, or crew-related activity. I'm looking for a college to provide a rigorous challenge of academics and athletics. My dream is to continue growing as a strong crew member and teammate, at the college of my dreams. With hard work, my goal is to be on the National and Olympic team.
