Rowing has become more than just a sport for me; it’s a true source of joy and connection. The bond I share with my teammates feels like a family, built through early morning practices and working in perfect sync. Together, we navigate the water with a unity that goes beyond individual effort, creating a powerful collective force. This sense of togetherness and mutual support has taught me the real value of teamwork and has given me friendships that extend beyond the boat. Facing challenges together strengthens our bond, making every victory more meaningful and every setback something we tackle as a team.
I want to be great for myself and for my team, knowing I could do hard things. This was especially true during the pandemic. During that time it was harder to get multiple days of practice in but my team and I still showed up as much as we could and reaped the benefits. I felt strong, worked hard, loved being out on the water, and loved engaging with my team and coaches. Now I row 6-7 days a week and couldn't be happier with my progress. Many members of my team left and some new people joined and our coaches frequently changed over the last few years which was challenging. I found that I could be adaptable with so many different types of rowers and coaching styles which proved to be super beneficial. Rowing is a way to push myself to the max physically and mentally which I love. Rowing so many days for hours in the cold and rain can be hard, but with my girls in the boat and the true love for the sport, it makes it all worth it. The friends and community it gives me is something I value so deeply and it continues to make me a better person daily.
I give my all in everything I do. I push myself to be my best in all my academics, sports, and extracurricular clubs like FCA and Young Life. I care a ton about making a difference in the world and am very determined to do my best everyday with full effort. In my free time I love writing, singing and producing songs and playing piano and guitar. I also love being able to serve and lead in my community in any way I can like helping run fundraisers and be a leader in Young Life or Fellowship of Christian Athletes. I am very people-oriented and extroverted which has served me really well and I care a ton about my relationships with those around me. Though I am very much a people person, I can still deepdive into things like academics. School is something I prioritize. Since I was young I knew I wanted to go to the best college I could and dreamed of Ivy Leagues. This dream has driven me to achieve and I have taken as many advanced courses in school as I can so I can exceed academically. Currently I'm taking Honors English, Advanced Algebra A and Trigonometry which is 2 years advanced, and Biology as a freshman. I plan to take as many AP's as I go through High School and they become available to take.
I believe my character is a unique asset that sets me apart from other recruits. I'm willing to do challenging things because I know it makes me stronger and grow. I care a ton about the people I'm with and being a positive light in the world. But overall I never give up, I give 110% effort no matter what. My goals for rowing would be to go to nationals or the championships eventually which is something I'm working to every day. Thank you for considering me as a candidate for your rowing team and school.
