My name is Riley Mackey. I am a sophomore at the Academy of Notre Dame de Namur, just outside of Philadelphia and throughout my life I have always been interested in athletics; I have played softball, soccer, and basketball from the second I was able to join any team. Recently, I have quit softball and soccer to focus on my rowing career. I still play basketball for my club teams and Notre Dame. I love being active and being a part of teams where I get a chance to meet new people and make lifelong friends. At my high school, I had always heard of the rowing team but never really thought of joining until one day out of the blue I did. That day, after learning how to erg, I completed my first 2k, and I surprised my coaches as well as myself with my time. From that day, I developed a passion for rowing and getting better every day. Throughout my freshman season I was seven seat of the freshman eight, but the seasons following worked my way up to now being in my teams top boat the varsity four. I have rowed in Head of the Charles, the Stotesbury Regatta, and many other regattas that have given me a great experience and helped develop me to who I am as not only a rower but as a person today. I try my best to bring an open and positive attitude to practice each day, and make improvements every one of them. I am grateful to my amazing coaches as well as teammates who have helped me in doing so. My love for rowing continues to grow every time and I am greatly interested in continuing my passion for the sport outside of high school at the collegiate level.
