Hello, I am Annika Bliven, currently rowing at Austin Rowing Club. I enjoy the immersive nature of competitive rowing and how it causes me to focus on my mind, body, nutrition, and social aspects of the sport, in addition to the physical training and endurance required to excel. It is very meaningful working towards group goals with my teammates, who come from all over the city, and sharing the challenges and solutions, such as time management and balancing schoolwork with the physical demands of rowing. I have learned that I am a momentum person and that once I am in my full-on mode it is easier for me to keep pushing through, whether on the water, erg, or in class.
A highlight thus far was competing and medaling (2nd) at the Head of the Charles in 2022 in the U17 4+ event. It is very rewarding having the challenge of regattas to measure your, and your teammates’ growth, and to do so as a group, working through the successes and the setbacks. I look forward to further challenging myself in college, athletically and academically, and meeting new teammates with whom I will share the experience. I know how to lead and pick up my teammates, and when to accept advice and tips on improving, and love the challenge of it all. I will be a strong addition to your college and team and am very excited to begin.
