Determination, confidence and self examination are fundamental principles that I incorporate in my everyday life. I try my best to live up to my full potential on and off the pitch. A lack of determination can cause you to throw the whole game away, keeping your head up high and staying focused is key to being successful. Pushing through your mistakes or missed chances throughout a game is what will be your reward in the next game. Failing can never turn into succeeding without drive. As a soccer player I believe confidence is essential, this doesn't mean you will always be confident though. In the moments where I don't believe in my abilities I say a quick prayer and I have learnt to feed off the hope I have for my team. Most times as a player you're not playing for yourself but you're playing for a greater cause. I would say my confidence comes from my team, my faith, my family as well as self-empowerment. I’m a huge believer in taking charge of your destiny. You only get one chance at life and as someone who is coming from a less developed country where my options were limited, being in a new country has opened up so many doors for me, the most important one being able to become a student athlete. My last core value is self-examination. I'm always looking at what I need to work on to improve. How well did I play? What needs to change? What do my role models do in such situations? After I ask myself these questions I adapt and change my play. I have high standards and expectations for myself and that has taken me so far in life. A crucial part of being a great player is being a smart one.
My name is Tapiwa Kalua. I'm in the class of ‘24. I plan on becoming a Medical Doctor one day. I play FW, usually as a striker or LW and sometimes I play in the MF. I only started playing soccer in the last 2 years of elementary school, however, I consistently put in my best efforts to become the player I am today. The goal is to play DI, DII or DIII soccer throughout my college career; I want to find a school that will push me to my fullest potential on and off the pitch, a place where I can live out my dreams of playing college soccer. I really just want the opportunity to do what I love; play soccer. Finally I would like to mention that I’m a great individual on and off the pitch, academics are very important to me. I always put in the work. I love all the sciences and mathematics too. I have enrolled in AP classes for my upcoming Senior year and I have had consistent A’s since coming to Canada. I love learning, whether it's soccer, school or just self discovery. Athletically, I love working out and I practice soccer skills as often as I can. I pray that I will be a good addition to your roster, thank you!
