Personal Statement
Soccer has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. In elementary school I was the only girl playing soccer with the refugee boys before school and at recess. I have learned a lot about perseverance and having a positive work ethic though sports. Many coaches have commented on my tenacity and continued drive for success. I have gained leadership skills playing sports. I was selected at the only junior captain for both my varsity soccer and basketball teams. My AAU basketball team had the mantra of “Team First”. I learned how to dedicate everything to my team no matter if I was on the field or cheering from the bench and I work to inspire other people to bring their fire.
Playing soccer on a lot of different teams has taught me how to get along with different people. I changed schools at the start of high school and had to adapt to a new environment. At my high school Arabic is the second most spoken language. This summer I went to Morocco for an intensive Arabic language program so I could connect with my community better. It was an amazing experience. I have worked as a camp counselor and I really enjoy working with kids. As a career, I can see myself as a teacher or an occupational therapist.
