Everything has been happening so fast. I am currently a junior and I attend St Timothy’s School. It’s a school located in Stevenson, Maryland. It’s an international boarding school. My school is different than normal high school, not just because its a boarding school. My school is an International Baccalaureate (IB) level school. IB level classes don’t start until my junior year. During freshman and sophomore year my school provides Middle Years Programme (MYP).
During my freshman year of high school, I was not able to play soccer with my high school team due to Covid-19; but i was able to continue playing with my club team at the time. Sadly, during the spring of my freshman year, I suffered a major ankle injury which did not allow me to continue the rest of my travel season. As my sophomore year comes around the corner, I have not touched a ball since before my injury so I had a lot of work to do. Before the season started, I would coordinate training sessions with some of the local girls on my high school team and we would all head out to the field to get a nice session in. These sessions were overall very beneficial since I was able to get some conditioning done as well get hundreds of touches in before the season started. Once the season started, there was no slowing down. At this time my focus was completely into my high school season since I switched travel teams from Baltimore Union to Coppermine Soccer Club. Coppermine do not do fall seasons for the older players to ensure that the players are completely focused on their high school seasons. As this season came around, I pushed myself to every single limit to get where I needed to be. I ran the extra laps, ran the extra sprints during drills, stayed after practice to continue working on different set pieces. I would put in the extra work to make sure I was able to be what my team needed me to be. With this mentality throughout the season, we went undefeated and won conference champs which was the first time in St Timothy’s history!
Now that my junior year came running towards me, I was praying for a similar season. Sadly, due to my previous ankle injuries, I was not able to play majority of the season. I was with my athletic trainer every day doing rehabilitation exercises to be able to get back onto the field before the season ended. I took the time to rest and recover without rushing the process, no matter how much I wanted to. I supported my team at every game and practice and tried my best to give feedback. After multiple weeks, I have been blessed to return to the field before my season ended. I am now fully recovered and I am able to get ready for my Coppermine season as it is approaching very soon.
I was very fortunate to be given the opportunity to play with Coppermine because dedication to each individual player helped me focus on my weaknesses and be able to work on them. This made me more self-conscious about my own playing style as well as be able to read my opponents much easier. Coppermine has given me multiple lifetime opportunities and are continuing to offer me those opportunities that I am forever grateful for. Over my years of playing club level soccer, I have learned a lot; I learned the true meaning of teamwork, commitment, leadership and sacrifice. I'm looking for a program thats a good fit for me, not just athletically but also academically. I believe that I not only have the talent to compete for a college team, but the character, dedication, and leadership skills to make an impact on your program. As an athlete, a seven time captain and two time assistant coach, I know that I have what it takes to be a leader on your team!
