Since age six, I have been competitively swimming for Wichita Swim Club in the Missouri Valley LSC, giving me an appreciation for all the hard work and dedication it takes to be a swimmer. Swimming has allowed me to work hard to achieve my goals, and as a sophomore at Andover High School, one of my goals this season is to reach my cuts and increase my leadership skills. I want to achieve sectionals and futures cuts in the 100 fly, 200 freestyle, 200 fly, 200 IM, and 100 freestyle this season. I will reach this goal by attending and trying my hardest in practice. Improving my leadership skills also allows me to help guide and mentor younger swimmers and support the swim club.
To help me achieve my time goals this season, I try to hit my paces in practice and keep my strength up with personal training. Even though practice can be challenging, it will help me improve and reach my goals.
The Wichita Swim Club holds many events to volunteer to meet younger swimmers and for fundraisers. I am a part of the Athlete Committee, which helps organize and promote these events. I have enjoyed getting to know the younger kids, and I remember what it is like to look up to the older kids. For this reason, I joined the committee, which is also why I want to be a leader.
I was a part of the 2022 Kansas Girls State Swimming Championship Team. As a freshman last year, it was an experience that I will never forget. The team aspect, spirit, and energy make me look forward to this year's high school season. The enthusiasm and bond of the team are also something I want to be a part of in college.
Swimming has taught me how to manage my time after school and in school. It can sometimes be hard to do both, but finding a balance has improved this. I always have swimming to look forward to during the day, and it has given me lifelong friends. I want to swim in college because it is something happy in my life that pushes me to my limits, makes me feel proud of myself when I achieve my goals, and gives me another family.
