Hey Coaches! My name is Isabella Hunter; I go by Izzy. I live in Kansas City and attend Shawnee Mission East High School. I am currently a sophomore and I will be graduating in 2026.
Swimming isn't just a sport, it's a passion. I love getting in the water and the thrill of racing others. I have been swimming on the Kansas City Swim Academy club team for 10 years with the same coach, who I have grown really close with. Last year all of my hard work paid off when I made the girls varsity swim team as a freshman. During that 1st season I fell more in love with the sport and I absolutely cannot wait until the season begins again in the spring. I also realized how much I enjoy the backstroke and pushed myself to do well in that stroke. I cut times in my 100 back and in the 200 Medley Relay, in which I swam the backstroke. These 2 events are not the only ones I enjoy swimming, I also really love to swim the 200 IM, the 50 fly in the 200 Medley Relay, and the 50 free. That same season I also had a state cut time in the 200 IM and got .07 seconds from getting a 50 free state cut time. The highlight of the season was earning a varsity letter as a freshman.
I’m equally excited to be part of a team. One of my favorite aspects of being on a team is the camaraderie that comes from cheering on teammates and supporting each other both in and out of the water. I often take part in social activities and find value in spending time socializing before and after practices.
Although swimming is important to me, so are my grades and other activities. I pride myself on having mostly A’s and a 4.0 weighted GPA. I have maintained this GPA since my freshman year. My current plan is to earn a degree in an area focused on art and design. I also am involved in the SHARE program, which is a student lead volunteer organization. I frequently take part in events that give back to the community.
Thanks for taking the time to read my athlete’s statement. Let me know if you have any questions or would like more information. I look forward to hearing from you.
