I was first interested in swimming after my parents put me in my club's annual swim clinic when I was 8. After that, I joined my swim club, Aquastrom, and have been swimming short course and long course ever since. Swimming club gives me many opportunities throughout the year. I swim short course yards in the winter, and long course meters in the summer. The past two years, I qualified and swam at Speedo Sectionals. That was definitely a big milestone in my career, and I love competing at large meets and meeting people from around the country. My goal is to eventually swim at Futures and Junior nationals. When swimming for my club, I get to swim with boys and girls, and also the college swimmers in the summer. I love being able to see my old teammates. They are such an inspiration, and I am always able to learn something from them.
Another big part of my swimming career is swimming for my high school in the fall. I recently just finished my 4th year of high school swimming. It is one of the most exciting parts of the year. At the end of the season, we get to compete at the state tournament. In 2022, I placed 4th in the 200-yard IM and 11th in the 100-yard fly. My 200-yard free relay team also won the relay, and my team placed 3rd overall. This season (2023) my team won the state title, and both my 200-yard Medley and 200-yard free relays took first. I also placed 5th in my 200 IM and 9th in my 100 fly.
While swimming helps me become a better athlete, it also helps me become a better person. My team is big on bringing each other back up when things get tough, and I hope to bring that same attitude to whatever team I join in college. I have learned so many life lessons from swimming, like putting in the work when things get hard. I am constantly looking for places to improve my technique, times, and leadership. Another big lesson I've learned is how to balance school and training.
I recently started attending athlete representative meetings, where club swimmers from around my state meet and discuss different topics and issues regarding North Dakota Swimming as a whole. I am also taking up the athlete representative position for my club Aquastorm this summer. I love being able to vote and discuss different topics with people from around, and find ways we can improve how meets and other events are ran.
The "Student" in "student-athlete" is very important to me. I currently hold a 4.0 GPA and am enlisted in advanced, honors, and AP classes. I plan on pursuing a medical career.
When I'm not in the pool, I love to give back to my community by teaching swim lessons, and I am also lifeguard.
