Hi! My name is Julia Ames and I am in the class of 2025. I started swimming when I was 6 years old at a local YMCA. When I was around 8 years old, my swim instructor saw my potential and thought I was ready for the swim team. I started competitive swimming when I was 8 years old. When I was around 11 years old, I wanted to grow more as a swimmer. Therefore, I moved to my first club team. I have been on a club team since I was 11 years old. I have made many accomplishments during my swim career while also balancing academics. I still hold the 1000 yard free team record for the 11-12 age group. When I was 14 years old, I won 1st place overall in a New England based championship in the 200 yard backstroke and when I was 15 years old in the 100 free at a local summer league meet. High school swimming has allowed me to become a better teammate and swimmer. I am committed to helping out my swim team when it comes to planning events, being their for my teammates and making sure everybody has a positive attitude. I planned and executed senior night because I wanted to make sure that the seniors had a night to remember. I had an injury a few days prior and even though I could not swim, I still showed up and helped decorate and cheered on my teammates. Along with doing high school practices, I would also do club practice, about an hour apart. My club team practices at the same pool as my high school team, so I was able to do my homework and study at the pool before my next practice, so I would not fall behind in school. I wanted to keep a balance between school and swim. I hope to continue my swimming career at the collegiate level! Thank you.
