Personal Statement
I picked up a tennis racquet in the beginning of my 8th grade year and while I instantly knew I wouldn't put it down, I had no idea how far it would take me. I began practicing and playing tournaments with little idea of how the sport would soon become my life. I considered college tennis at that point but my coach at the time told me I started too late and wouldn't be able to play at the collegiate level. However, at a tournament in the fall of my sophomore year, I met my private coach. He encouraged me and showed me that I am capable of contributing to a college team. It's been all hard work and determination since then. This journey has shaped me as I've learned to keep pushing my limits, never take no for an answer, and to find more in myself when I think I have nothing left. I do realize that I started playing later than most but I am devoting my life to this sport and I refuse to let anything hold me back.
Tennis has created my future. It is through tennis that I decided I want to get a degree in Exercise Science. With that degree, I plan to be a tennis coach and trainer. My passion for this sport is incredibly strong and my desire is to pass that on to others. Playing on a college team means a lot to me in that I want to further my progress and advance my game, be a part of a team in which I can encourage and help motivate my teammates, and observe my coach(es) in order to be a great coach in the future.
