Hello,
My name is Kelley Higginson. I am a Senior at East Union High School in Manteca Ca. My athletic abilities allow me to be versatile in my choice of running events. My endurance and determination make me a great candidate for long distances, where I have been named Valley Oak, All League in Cross Country. I have competed from VOLs to CIF Sections and have medaled in the Championships, and also received our schools "Most Valuable Runner Award". I have been a Team Captain in Cross Country for the last two years and was moved up as a freshman to be on the varsity team. I was also a long distance runner for our school's Varsity Track & Field team. My stature and strength also allows me to compete at mid- distance races, such as the 800m, where I also excelled in. I was also a fill in on our teams 4x100, which we were able to break a few invitational records. I was also named the 3rd leg in our 4x400 team. As you can see I am able to perform in a variety of areas, which makes me a more versatile candidate. Growing up, I participated on a traveling USATF traveling team and competed at Nationals at the age of 12 in Baltimore, MD. I was ranked 35 in the nation for Shot Put. I played on a Hi-Comp traveling Soccer team as well for 3 years, receiving the "Outstanding Defense Award".
I am also active in the classroom as well. I have received a Magna Cum Laude Academic Certificate and the Valley Oak League Scholar Athlete Award. I am currently enrolled in the Health Care Careers, ROP program thru our local hospital. I will be interning this year to gain a better understanding of the health care field. As far as my future goals, I plan to study Nutrition Science, where I would like to specialize in Nutrition Services for cancer and diabetic patients. I chose this field of study as my family has had to deal with both, as of recent. I have been involved with the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, as a co-captain for 2 years and also a participant in the ACS Making Strides Breast Cancer Walk, which will be going on 2 years. I have also participated in mentoring the elementary school athletes who come to our high school for training clinics. In my spare time I enjoy running local 5 &10k races, and helping out at our local "Mud Run" events.
Thank you for your time.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,
Kelley Higginson
