I recently took up this sport. Last year, as a 9th grader, I was an outfielder on our high school varsity softball team. Having a strong arm, my track coach encouraged me to try my hand at javelin. I was pleasantly surprised, as was my coach during my initial evaluation, that I have the qualities he believes will take me forward to compete at a collegiate level. I qualified for a major meet in only my second competition. I know I still have a lot to learn, and am very excited about how much better I can get. Javelin has become a sport that I really love, and one in which I earnestly look forward to learning, growing and competing in at the next level. That said, right now I only know the basics.
I am the district champion in our section. I will soon be competing for regionals. While I currently taper my expectations, I can only imagine where I will be as I grow and advance. This summer I plan to begin strength training and further develop my technique. My goal is to add another 20 meters to my throw.
At school I have always excelled in the sciences, and have pretty good art skills. I was recognized with the highest award in art when I graduated from middle school. Because of my science and art inclination I lean towards studies in engineering and architecture. This summer I will be doing an internship in the naval architecture program at the University of Michigan, where I hope to learn more about the discipline.
