Personal Statement
I am a senior at Lawton High School, located in southwest Michigan. Since childhood, I've been a very active and athletic person so naturally I participated in many sports growing up. Yet running has always stood out to me because of the heart and determination necessary to excel. The idea of pushing yourself to your body's potential truly sets both track and cross country apart from other sports.
Aside from participating in cross country and track, I keep myself busy with playing basketball in the winter. For the past two years I have been a team captain and enjoy the shift from running to basketball, back to running during the school year. Throughout the year I also participate in many school clubs and organizations. I am class valedictorian, class president, the president of SADD, the president of National Honor Society, and am also a member of the Spanish Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, and Student Council. I am also a freshman mentor and math tutor. These activities and sports combined with dual enrollment classes, high school classes, and work keep me occupied.
The most prominent reason I would like to compete at the collegiate level is to push my limits as an athlete and runner. I would like to be surrounded by people who are academically and athletically motivated like myself. I am incredibly excited to begin the next phase of my athletic and academic career and expand my potential.
