At 6 years old I was identified as having a learning disability (reading comprehension). I was placed in a 16:1 class with accommodations and an IEP along with other students with disabilities. I was at the high end of the spectrum and was, often times, able to assist the other students in my class. During this period I learned patience, understanding and empathy for others that may struggle with certain day-to-day issues. With hard work, determination and the help from the school counselors and staff from the Special Education department I was able to be main-streamed in 9th grade. There was a time I did not think I would be able to earn my high school diploma and now I am on the pathway to graduate with a Regents diploma and a 91.2% average.
I have been a member of our high school track and cross country teams since 7th grade, swim team (2014-2015), Link Crew (Jr & Sr years), Outdoors Club, and FFA. I am currently a captain on the track team.
I am also very active outside of school - competing in A & AA nationally rated horse shows, 4-H, IEA (Interscholastic Equestrian Association) and I volunteer at the Buffalo Therapeutic Riding Center.
I am hoping to continue being a student athlete in college. I am hard working and dependable with the strength and determination to become a valuable member of a team.
