Hi! My name is Demi Nicholas. Ever since I was 5 years old, I have been competing as an athlete under pressure in front of large crowds. My first sport was jumping rope on an international competitive jump roping team (Bouncing Bulldogs of Chapel Hill, NC) where I received many national and international top-three finishes in speed and freestyle events. I realized then that I had the endurance and determination to be a great athlete in other sports. I tried out for club volleyball in my 6th grade year and made the top team (NC Academy, Diamond Team). Also in 2018, a Cary Christian cross country coach noticed my athleticism and grit and recruited me for track. I am grateful that Coach Estep saw my potential and I realized my passion for running! I share the same sentiment for running as my grandfather who ran for Purdue University in the 1950’s. My mom told me that my Grandfather Jim formerly ran the same cross country and track events as I do!
Throughout my athletic career (especially in running), I have learned that hard work, discipline, and tenacity are keys to personal wins. I am determined to take these three virtuous principles and apply them to my future college running team and academic career. I hope to study physical therapy in my graduate years as my running injuries throughout my 8th & 10th grade years have given me the unique opportunity to understand how therapy can prevent injuries and strengthen athletes. In consideration of the personal characteristics and experiences mentioned above, my high school leadership involvements, and my naturally encouraging and coachable nature, I am confident that I will be an outstanding runner on your team.
