Personal Statement
I started pole vaulting about 2 months ago and I automatically clicked with the sport. Little did I know I would be easily jumping 10' in my meets or clearing 12' bungees this quickly!
I was a competitive gymnast 4 years prior to pole vaulting which really prepared me for the rigorous workouts, weight training, and wild technique! Ever since I was younger I knew I wanted to get a scholarship and play sports in college, and I have finally found the sport I love. My motivation and dedication to pole vaulting is nothing like what I had for gymnastics, swimming, or volleyball. I wake up, ready to head to pole vaulting. I think about it constantly and crave going to practice, getting on a new pole, or raising the bungee another foot! Since I just started I still have so much to learn and I am excited to see where I end up, and what my PR is in 3 or 4 years when I applying to colleges!
I see myself as being a very quick learner in pole vaulting, or in any other sport. I perfected my trail leg my 5th practice, I learned to push away the pole, and the technique is still coming because everything always has room for improvement. People tell me I am crazy and that I have no fear... they are right! I am always up for trying new things. If I fail, then I just laugh it off and try again. After being a gymnast, the act of repetition is still engraved in me. This helps me with pole vaulting, because repetition and practice makes perfect! Besides my love for pole vaulting, my love for academics comes in close next to my love for athletics.
I have been at woodlawn for about 3 years now, and it has grown me into a life long learner that I have always wanted to be. My school inspired me to create entrepreneurship within me, which led to creating a soap business. I sell to local markets, and am now working on a non-profit organization called Soap For Hope. I am working on donating soap to orphanages in foreign countries who are less fortunate.
In college I am looking for a good coach, nice and safe facility, and the academics that can help propel me into a great future. I have the dedication, so all I need is a coach that is willing to train me harder than ever and take me to the top!
