My name is Mackenzie Caprino and I’m a 5’5 115p junior running for South Salem High School. I have ran competitively since I was younger, running both club track and cross country, competing at Nationals every year. Once I got into high school I competed my freshman year on our varsity Xc team, but unfortunately my season was cut short due to a compound fracture I sustained two weeks before our district meet. After a long recovery, I came back to run that spring for track, earning myself another varsity spot, still struggling to get back to my old times. My sophomore year of cross country I lettered again in both Xc and track, and ran over 3 minutes faster than the previous year and in track I ran over a minute faster in the 1500 and 30 seconds in the 800. This year, my junior of Xc I ran over a minute faster than my sophomore year and my team and I placed 2nd in our conference and 10th at the Oregon state meet. I continue to make progress this track season.
I am a very hard working and determined athlete and person, balancing IB classes, sports and choir. I am very excited to see what I can do at the next level, and to continue to make strides towards my goals and to continue to push through the adversity I have faced.
