My name is Mia Barrus and I attend Lincoln School in Providence, Rhode Island. I am currently in 11th grade and have been running for ten years. I have been on my school's cross country for my Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior year where I was our team's captain. My school has a very small cross country team, but does not have an indoor and outdoor track team. I compete as an individual for indoor and outdoor with the guidance of my coach. I join the Ronald McDonald House Club for workouts on Monday and Wednesday mornings before school. During cross country season, I get around 40 miles a week, indoor is around 30, and for outdoor I get around 35-40.
I started running by joining a local club team. With this team, I competed at the USATF Junior Olympics, Regionals, and Cross Country National Championships.
Along with running, I swam competitively for ten years and still enjoy competing with my school's swim team and doing triathlons in the summers. I have also cycled for several years and competed in cyclocross and mountain biking.
In college, I hope to major in neuroscience and take a pre med track. I also want to run cross country and track for my college. I love competing and am motivated to keep improving throughout college. With not having had a team to train with during high school and being a multi-sport athlete, I believe that I have a lot of potential for improvement in college.
