I joined track when I was in 7th grade as a way to stay fit and busy. I can remember coming home from my first practice absolutely dreading the sport. Complaining that all we did was run, funny when you think about it but my father told me to continue in the sport as a healthy outlet and a good extra circular to be apart of. Slowly I came to realize I actually really enjoyed the sport as well as was really good at it. I remember my first meet being as Westside High school and I got 5th place. I beat myself up over that race for the whole week knowing I could have done better. My dad told me that it was my first race and to not take it so seriously. My dad reminded me the only reason I got Into the sport was just to stay busy, but the next meet I was set on placing top three. That meet I placed second and by the end of my 7th grade year after many meets and training I placed first in districts. The sport did keep me busy and fit but it offered something more pertinent than that, it taught me stability, hard work, strong mindset, consistency and most of all gave me a purpose. I joined Cross Country my 8th grade year and placed 3rd in districts. I was unable to do track my 8th grade year due to covid. Come my freshman year of High school I was put in the 2 mile and 1 mile event. I ran a 6:15 mile and a 12:50 2 mile at my third track meet . After my third meet I was put on Varsity. I ran in varsity meets my whole freshman year and ended the year off with a 5:55 minute mile at the area meet. Last year my (Sophomore year) I did cross country and my PR 3 mile was an 18:50. I was 4 spots from making it to state. My track season last year I ended off with a 5:40 mile and made it to area. I was 2 places from competing in regionals. I am now a junior and have hopeful new PR's to come this year . I am looking to run in college and even get a scholarship for both or either Track and Cross country . I am hungry for hard work and to perform well for the college that wants me to run for them.
