For me, there is no better feeling than receiving a perfect spike. My name is Camryn Bedgood. I am a junior at the Alabama School of Math and Science (ASMS). I play libero and defensive specialist. Since starting volleyball in 8th grade, it has become my life. Any free time I have outside of school is dedicated to volleyball. I did dance, gymnastics, cheer, and played softball from elementary to early high school, but nothing has inspired me to work as hard as volleyball has made me.
My academics have always been a priority for me. I have maintained a high GPA throughout my school career and have seen my ACT score increase since last taking it. Academics are my strong suit. Volleyball was not. It was hard, and I have been fighting to keep up with those more athletically inclined. That’s why I love the sport as much as I do. The struggle has pushed me to improve, and I have no intention of slowing down now. Along with playing in my school's Varsity team, I have also captained one of our 4 intramural teams for two years now.
Leadership has also been a priority of mine. As I said I have been captain of an intramural team for 2 years, but I’m also a school ambassador for ASMS. I believe that the best way to lead is by example rather than by words so I have made it a personal goal whether I want to or not to always give 110% at practice and in the classroom. If I choose to invest in something I will invest everything I have. A player may have more raw skill and talent than I do, but I have the high volleyball IQ, the drive to always get better, and the endurance needed to push through tough times. I am an extremely hardworking person in everything I do. I want to play collegiate volleyball more than anything, and if I put my mind to something, I will see it through to the end.
