Personal Statement
I originally didn’t start playing volleyball until about three years ago. I was originally a soccer player with aspirations of being on the national team. I had played soccer for about 8 years. Over the summers I would attend some volleyball camps just for fun, but this only made me want to play even more. I became hooked on the sport and the team comradery that comes along with it. Eventually I started training and began to play club. For two years I played both sports and it was tough. There were scheduling conflicts and overall too much. I had to choose between the only sport I knew and a newfound love for another. These past three years have taught me a lot about hard work, drive, and ambition. I have learned to be a great teammate on and off the court. Then freshman year started, and I made the varsity volleyball team. I played outside hitter in an environment I was unfamiliar with. I had never played for a school team before, or with older girls and it was a great experience. We won the district title for the first time since 1983 and continued on to the regional semi-finals. During high school, my goal is to get high grades and be a part of National Honors Society. I want to be one of the top students in my grade and strive to learn new things. I plan to be on varsity for another 3 years and focus on my volleyball skills. This past club season, I was asked to play up on an older team. Originally as an outside hitter, they asked me to take up the position of right side hitter. It has been a challenge, but I stepped up as a player and now I am one of the top blockers on my team. In college I want to play a sport I love and study something that interests me intellectually. I would like to explore the biomedical major and become a biomedical engineer. My goal during my college years is to develop overall and achieve my goals. I will achieve this through the hard work and dedication I hold. Overall, I want to live a life full of happiness and filled with things I love to do.
