Personal Statement

My name is Roosa Armstead-Lehti and I am a Senior at Moanalua High School, Hawaii. However, last year I was an exchange student at Mäkelänrinne High School in Helsinki, Finland, Europe. That school is a sports high school specializing in training and developing promising young athletes. I played libero for the school’s volleyball team which was coached by Jouko Lindberg (previously Finland’s men national team player and women’s national team coach). On January 14, 2020, we won the National Championship.

I also played Libero/DS position for a local volleyball club called PuMa Volley. We won the Southern Finland’s Championship on December 14, 2019 and were preparing to compete for the Finland’s 16U National Title in April 2020 , when covid-19 cancelled all games.

Currently, I play for Hana Hou volleyball club in Hawaii. I started playing club volleyball in 2016 and in 2018-2019 I played for the Hana Hou Volleyball Club. In 2017, I was also selected to my JV high school team, which won the OIA title in Hawaii. While playing volleyball, whether for school, club or just for fun, it makes me realize other things. Being an amazing player takes dedication, time, effort, athleticism, and most importantly a strong mental health. I believe that being mentally strong will always be the most important thing in volleyball, other sports and life in general. I also believe that is one of my biggest strengths.

When I believe in something, I will do whatever it takes to succeed in it whether it is sports, music or studies. In addition to playing volleyball, I also play the viola at the Moanalua High School Orchestra and maintain my GPA of 4.0.

I am willing to go beyond what is expected and always do my best. I take all the things my coaches tell me seriously whether they apply on or off the court. For college, I want to go to a school with an outstanding education program. I want to study psychology  and ultimately become a clinical psychologist. Most importantly I want to play volleyball for the college I will attend. I am willing to study anywhere in the USA to obtain the best education and an opportunity to play volleyball.
