Safina Sandblom '23 Recruiting Profile

Aloha, I'm Såfina and I want to compete at the next level.  I am dedicated, hardworking, and always wanting to do more to become better. Ever since my first year playing for my high school team, my competitive nature was sparked and I knew I wanted to be an active and contributing member of a college team.  I worked hard to be a core member of the teams I played for and earned starting honors for both the Waimea High School Varsity and Ho'oikaika Volleyball Club.  I have played club volleyball for over 9 years and was honored to serve as team captain.

Both my parents were collegiate athletes and they instilled in me the drive and motivation to be the best I can be.  I have strong moral character and want to succeed both on and off the court.  I am very coachable and do well with routine and working towards an end goal.  I knew that cross-training in other sports would help with my volleyball skills so I decided to try new sports.  In my first year, I became starting goalie for my high school varsity soccer team - we qualified for our State championship tournament! - and came in second in the high jump for track for the KIF (Kauai Interscholastic Federation).

My first year in high school was a hard transition academically and then Covid19 hit and made my learning even more difficult.  Knowing what I am capable of, I was motivated to do better so I learned how to be more resilient.  I feel that I've hit my stride in my junior year and am on track as my senior year begins.  My goal is to earn a degree in Physical Therapy while playing competitive volleyball.  If you are looking for a respectful, loyal, and motivated player for your team, I am your girl!
