Personal Statement
I tried and experienced almost every sport as a child, but never felt like I belonged there. From soccer, to tennis, basketball, and swimming - and so much more, until I came across volleyball when I was only 11 years old. I knew it wasn't just "another sport" for me, because I felt a sense of belonging, and found myself playing this sport wherever, and whenever - it was the one thing I started to look forward to everyday at school. It has taught me so much - perseverance being the one thing that pulled me through. It taught me to become a teammate, but also a leader - a friend, but also a coach - and most importantly, a student, but also an athlete.
Moving around continents with different schools and different teams has only gained and expanded my experience of acceptance and the different intensities of competitive volleyball. Egypt, Singapore, and the USA are three very different parts of the world - all of which taught me something about who I am, and the sport that I am play. I know what it's like to win a big tournament/conference, but I also know what it's like to lose the biggest conference of the region, but it has brought the team closer together - as well as taught me, as an individual, to ask for help and hold myself accountable for my mistakes.
