Hello Coach, I'm so glad you've taken the time to read my personal statement! I come from a very cold and small town in Iowa, where practices are always getting cancelled, postponed, etc. This never stopped me! If practice was cancelled, you bet you'll see me either peppering against my wall, driving into my school no matter what the weather conditions, or researching other teams, film, and stats. I am determined to become a better athlete every day no matter the conditions.
I truly found my love for volleyball in the 7th grade when I got my first serve over the net and it was an ace. I've thrived and shown my true potential ever since then. I soon excelled in volleyball, I suited varsity my freshman year and by the next I was starting. Our volleyball program at my school has been through it, we've basically had a new coach every year. This has been especially hard on me because I haven't truly been able to make a connection with any of my coaches. Although I haven't been involved in any top notch club teams due to the expenses, I've shined bright throughout my small town program. I do play in our school club season throughout the winter and spring which has made me improve my skills over time. I have always dreamt of playing college volleyball. I would love to go out of state somewhere warm, but I do love Iowa as well. It would be awesome to become a D1 athlete, but I am still thrilled by even being looked at by college coaches.
I am the kind of athlete that you probably see all the time. I am very hard on myself, and I dwell on my mistakes. This has been something I've been working on since I can remember, but many coaches have said my progress has been tremendous. I would say I am an overall great teammate. I lift everyone up, from screaming on a kill, to telling them "We're good." on a mistake. I am the type of athlete to be there for my teammates in and out of the gym, even if we aren't the best of friends. I am also very helpful in the classroom as well. I have always been a great student, getting letters sent home about great behavior, always being on student council. I was the Student to be called to the Principals office to help him with something. I have struggled with a few classes in the past but I am determined to not let my struggles in the classroom define me. Thankfully, I am surrounded by amazing teachers who will stay all night to help me understand what y=mx+b means. ;)
