Personal Statement

I am currently a sophomore at Wichita Northwest High School. This will be my first year playing for the varsity team. I am also a member of the Legacy 16-1 VBC which finished the year ranked #2 among Heart of America club teams. While I traditionally play RH only, I am also playing a little OH and DS this year in hopes of playing in college and helping out the needs of my team. While I love hitting, being able to play solid defense is probably a more natural position for me in college. This change will help out my team as well as prepare me for college play. I currently carry a 4.0gpa and am ranked number 1 in my class of over 300. I am looking forward to playing volleyball in college. I also figure skate competitively. While figure skating tournaments are typically in the same season as club volleyball, I am able to balance both by being organized and prepared in all of my athletic endeavors. I plan to pursue a business degree in college, and plan to have volleyball be a part of that experience in the future.

  • Evaluated at Showcase Camp - Kansas City Volleyball on 06/04/2022 by Coach Warring of University of Missouri Kansas City Skillset Overview Technical Abilities - 81 / 100 Offense - Has a knack for finding the court on the attack, sees the open court, and has the ability to make solid contact. Setting - Aggressive with the ability to read the play quickly. Good hands, accuracy of sets and movement of the ball. Tactical Abilities - 81 / 100 Vision - Court vision is very good. Constantly checking spacing and court positioning to put herself in a great position to make the play. Scrimmage Play - Play was elevated in team activities. Great understanding of your roles and responsibilities within a team. Physical Abilities - 81 / 100 Endurance - Great work rate throughout camp. Showed endurance that helped effectiveness, especially late. Balance - Seemed to handle the challenges you faced well. Good job staying in your position and helping teammates where needed. Mental Abilities - 79 / 100 Coachable - Responds well to coaching. Asked good questions and seemed to enjoy the learning process. Team Player - Great team-first attitude. Was encouraging and supportive to teammates throughout camp. Coach's Comments Madelyn is incredibly sweet and was willing to interact with a variety of players and skill levels without making anyone feel out of place. She is definitely a welcoming individual. You seem to hesitate and it causes you to be slow to get to the ball. Be actively engaged so you can predict what will happen next and it will help you be in a better position to better the ball as a setter. It will be important to put more pace on the ball as you age, so work on getting on the ball faster to put more pop on it and increase serve receive difficulty. When the ball is using, you do a decent job of squaring hips but as you start to move, your contact point is sporadic. Working on creating more consistency with this by doing what was recommended in tip one.
