Personal Statement

My name is Makenna Gulch, and my goal/dream is to play college volleyball. I have the desire to become the best player I can be. In April 2022 I tore my ACL. After my surgery I vowed to never take anything for granted. I learned to be mentally stronger and became more driven during my recovery and I’ve come to appreciate every time I get to step on the court. There’s a happiness and competitiveness that I don't feel anywhere else. I am very driven, goal oriented, and a supportive teammate. My club HOF volleyball coach Chuck Erbe would say I am coachable and hard working. This past season he had challenged me to be a leader on the court and I believe I accomplished that task. On and off the court I love having fun, understanding that while I’m on the court I need to show respect to my opponents as well as the game. I give 100% at all times because there is no other way. My belief is, hard work and having a great mindset, is the key to success. That is why I am willing to go the extra mile to achieve the goals I’ve set for myself. I put a lot of work into my sport as well as into my schooling. I’ve come understand that, to be the best, you have to work the hardest, while staying humble and positive. It's such a blessing to be able to play volleyball everyday again and I’m striving to be a little stronger and a little better every day to be the best version of me.
