The highlight of my high school career in volleyball was making the division championship as a freshman. Although we lost, it was extremely fun to see how if a group of people really want something to happen, they can do it. Playing varsity, the competition was at a higher level than I was used to, however, I adjusted quickly. Our team had lost to two different teams throughout the season and when the playoffs started, we had to play one of them. We lost the first two out of the five sets but we never gave up and came back to win the next three sets to move onto the division championships. The energy and the excitement reached during the first playoff game reminded me of what I love in the sport of volleyball. Not only do I love winning, but I also love the feeling I get when there is a close game and we fight to push through for a win.
Throughout my life, I have had to overcome many obstacles to get to where I am today. One event that shaped my life was the Hurricane Sandy that took the first floor of my house and parts of my school away from me. From the experience of the storm, I have learned that perseverance and hard work can get you anywhere that you want to go as long as you are willing to work for it. I became interested in my sport when I started playing in a church league in my parish and I was able to see the girls older than me having so much fun and developing in the sport of volleyball. Seeing the fun and excitement practice and games brought to them made me want to play and continue with volleyball. I strive to do my best in high school so that I can get into the best college possible for me to put me on a path to success. In college, I plan on doing well in my courses to prepare myself for the jobs and other careers that will come afterward. Some of my unique characteristics will help me to achieve my goals such as my determination to be the best version of myself that I possibly can, and my attitude for never giving up and always trying your hardest to do as much as you can, as best as you can.
