Hi! My name is Sarah-Grace Champagne and what I love about volleyball is how fast-paced the game is, but also how mentally challenging it is. I love playing volleyball, not only because it brings me so much joy, but also because I play for the audience of one: God himself. I know many people say that, but I always strive to glorify God through my sport and believe that I can do that at the next level. I have learned so many important life lessons and have grown and matured so much through the sport.
In 2021, I was a sophomore at Porter-Gaud School in Charleston, South Carolina, played as the youngest player on the varsity team, and won the SCISA state championship. Although scary at first, I rose to the challenge, kept moving forward, and worked diligently every day on the court, studying and learning from the highly-skilled seniors I was teammates with. I was backup for the famed Marianna Singletary, who now plays at Texas, and is a National Champion and Pan-American Cup Champion. I was given the rare opportunity to have a great relationship with her and she pushed me on the court and the weight room. This school season (2022), I was put in a major leadership role, given we were rebuilding after graduating nine seniors, and we were SCISA state runner-ups.
Afterwards, I played at Palmetto Strikers, and was on the 16-Karson team, and we placed 13th overall at AAU Nationals.
I am currently playing at MVP, am on the 18-GOLD team, and am once again the youngest player on the team. I have had the growth-inducing experience of playing the opposite, outside, and middle positions at the various tournaments my team has gone to. I am more than willing to play any position that you best see fit on your collegiate team.
I always embrace any challenge that comes my way, whether it is on the court or in the classroom. I believe that I am a student before I am an athlete, as I have maintained a 4.4 cumulative GPA (weighted) and have been either on the Honor Roll or Summa Cum Laude, as my school keeps them separate. I have taken a versatile amount of AP and Honors classes, as while I aim to challenge myself on the court, I will also challenge myself in the classroom. I am very disciplined and strive to manage my time wisely so that way I can excel in all areas of my life. I always seek to be a leader on my volleyball teams and push my teammates to be the best players they can be. I always give 110% in all that I do and will do absolutely anything to become not only the best player but also the best person that I can be. What I look for in a school is how academically and athletically challenging the school is, and I want to be pushed beyond my limits, as I do not make excuses. I want to be a part of a program that wants to win and truly rise to the top, as I always aim to do.
