Personal Statement
The pandemic has affected many lives, but it has affected teen athletes in a very specific way. My club season was cancelled in march of 2020, but I was blessed enough to have a supportive community to help me practice all through spring and summer. I peppered with my dad every day, and I got involved in beach volleyball, which I continue to play twice a week.
I was excited to start daily conditioning camp at my high school in June, but unfortunately it was shut down after only 2 weeks due to Covid-19. This didn’t stop me. I continued to work out and touch the ball as much as possible until tryouts. I was put on the Junior Varsity as well as Varsity Team, which means I get to play 3 matches a week. I truly appreciate this opportunity because I get to experience the role of leader on one team, and learner on the other.
I often play all around as both outside hitter and middle back, but I can also play left back and setter. Right now, I am trying to focus on playing back row because my strengths are passing, speed and reading the court. I am a very good teammate because I bring a lot of energy and enthusiasm to the team. I am very encouraging, and I love to socialize through the sport. I am also very dedicated and coaches say that I am very coachable.
At this point it is difficult to say what will happen with club season but I am keeping my hopes high. With all that is happening I plan to stay focused on my school work and become a better volleyball player. My goal is to find a good fit college for myself, so I can thrive as both a student and an athlete.
