There and 5 traits that make one player stand out from the rest. The first trait is DRIVE. Drive should be the one thing that pushes the athlete to improve in every area of their craft. That urge to get better by the minute should be the one thing that gets them mentally prepared for the day. My drive to perfect my craft has yielded a new found skill - becoming a LEFT-HANDED HITTER over this past Club season. The second trait is DISCIPLINE. Athletes need to have discipline on and off the court. Whether that's time management, healthy eating and sleeping habits, having practices outside of scheduled practices, or balancing school and sports. These are things most athletes should develop during high school. The third trait would be AGGRESSIVENESS. My club coach always tell us " I don't mind you all making a mistake, but make an aggressive one." Of course people are going to make mistakes, but its what kind of mistake you make and how you work to correct it. Even with walking onto the court prepared to practice or play in a game, the athlete should always come into the gym aggressively and prepared for anything. The fourth trait is COMMITMENT. Being an exceptional athlete requires being committed to your sport and your team. The fifth , and last trait an athlete should have is DETERMINATION. You have to be determined if you mess up, to get back up and try again, but make the next attempt better than the last. You have to be able to tell yourself not to give up. I, as well as others, believe I embody all of those traits. That's what makes me the exceptional candidate for your academic program, volleyball team, and athletic family.
