Personal Statement

While attending Lamar High School in Houston, TX, I've fostered a love for helping people to work through their personal and educational challenges, while conquering my own.  My aspirations for college are to major in Psychology and continue to play the game I love.  I plan to continue my education and pursue my doctorate degree to become a Clinical Psychologist with a focus on Sports/ Adolescents.  Primarily, I play OH/RS/M, but I have been dedicating the past two club seasons to becoming a true 6-Rotation player. I have crafted my skill of becoming a LEFT-HAND HITTER as well.  I have worked diligently to be the all-around player any coach would be prod to have on their roster.  I feel I stand out from other recruits because my confidence in my abilities on and off the court does not exude arrogance.  I know what I am capable of, and I am willing and ready to show the world through my actions.

I have DRIVE.  Drive should be the one thing that pushes the athlete to improve in every area of their craft. The second trait I possess is DISCIPLINE, on and off the court. Whether that's time management, healthy eating and sleeping habits,  having workout sessions outside of scheduled practices, or balancing school, social time, and sports. The third trait I encompass is mental and physical AGGRESSIVENESS. My club coach always tell us " I don't mind you all making a mistake, but make an aggressive one."  I use this to fuel my desire to be the best.  I possess COMMITMENT and aim to give it all, every practice, every game.  I am present well before my scheduled practice time working to improve my game and am committed to my team's success. The fifth trait of sheer DETERMINATION sets me apart from the rest.  I mess up, I get back up and try again, and vow to not make the same mistakes.  I push myself to persevere even when it seems the goal is out of reach.  These character traits make me the exceptional candidate for your academic program, volleyball team, and athletic family.
