Samantha O’Brien '24 Recruiting Profile

Hello! My name is Samantha O’Brien, a 2024, 5’9 Outside Hitter. My love of volleyball drives me to continue playing year round. In the fall, I play on the varsity team at Yorktown High School in Arlington, Virginia. During winter and spring, I play on a Club team and in the summer, I play beach volleyball with Alexandria City Titans. I can never get enough of volleyball, which is why I now strive to play at the collegiate level. I joined the sport later than most, but I make up for it with my ability to learn quickly. My coaches say I am extremely coachable and always bring a positive attitude to the team. I am constantly trying to better myself in volleyball. In my downtime I review practice and game footage or watch professional matches. My favorite volleyball player is Yuji Nishida. He reminds me that even if you’re not the tallest on the court, you can still get up and crush the ball. 

Outside of volleyball, I ski, swim, and spend time with my family and friends. I come from a very close biracial family with many different cultures in my extended family.  Even though we are far apart (distance wise), we make the time to spend major holidays and vacations together. I value connections with people, which is why I plan to study psychology and social work in college.

I am set on being a collegiate athlete. No doubt I will offer passion, dedication, hard work, results and diversity to any college volleyball program.
