Collegiate goals and aspirations
Academic:
My parents are first generation college graduates from each of their families. The skills they learned in setting goals and working hard were taught to me and my 5 siblings. I am the youngest. My three older siblings graduated from BYU in Elementary Education, Actuarial Science and Molecular Biology. One has gone on to a Phd program in Genetics and one is doing a Masters in Computer Science. My other 2 siblings are attending BYU (Engineering and Dietetics/Nutrition). These are the examples that have inspired me.
I have a 4.25 GPA. I have a fascination for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). I'm in the National Honor Society, Heritage Varsity Club, Math Honor Society, ASL and Science Honor Society. Right now my choices are open and exciting. I am leaning towards a major in Math or Technology/Engineering.
Athletics:
My athletic goals stem from a love of sports. I started playing organized sports as a point guard in basketball. I was told by many coaches that I was a fast learner with natural abilities. I'm fast, athletic, have good ball handling skills, can assess the court and be calm under pressure. By the time I was in middle school I was being asked to join several travel teams. I averaged 20 points per game.
In 8th grade my friends asked me to tryout with them for our school's volleyball team. There was a lot to learn but I fell in love with this sport. I took the same skills from BB and applied what I could to volleyball. I learned all positions but was used primarily as a Setter/OPP.
As a freshman in high school I was chosen to be on the Varsity team, OPP. This was only my second year playing volleyball. I was grateful for the opportunity and worked hard to prove that I belonged there. We had a rotation where I played in every game. Our team went to Regionals. I love playing volleyball and I had a desire to elevate my game so I took control and began setting goals.
Athletic Versatility & Experience
I researched what universities looked for in an OPP. I knew I had additional abilities that I could further develop which would be an asset to my high school team, clubs and interested colleges. I worked hard on my physical fitness, strength training and defensive skills.
I played in 3 different volleyball clubs because they were interested in me and provided me opportunities to grow:
Loudoun Elite, (OPP): 14 yrs old, played on the 16 team
Paramount (6 position player, OPP): went to Open Nationals, 2021
Vienna Elite (6 position player DS/OPP): 16 yrs old, playing on the 17 team
Volleyball Skills (OPP, 6 position player, DS/Libero)
Although I love playing at the net (hitting and blocking), I know my height (5'8") may hinder those opportunities in the future so I decided to further enhance my defensive skills in the backrow playing DS/Libero. When playing DS, I still provide offensive assistance with backrow hitting and as a 6 position player.
I am grateful to have had great coaches and teammates in my life. I know I am a team player. My versatility on the court is important to our team's success. I believe I can provide this type of athleticism and experience in the next level: colleges and universities.
