Personal Statement
My goals for college are to be a successful student, team player, and dedicated alumni. I am a good candidate for any team because I understand what it means to be both a team member and leader. As a team captain, I have had to organize games, strategies, and events. As a setter, I have to be the coach on the floor, understand what is happening on both sides of the net, be able to keep my hitters heads on straight and keep the team spirits up. I have set for a team a year older than myself and have been in the unique position of maintaining humility and leadership in order to keep the game positive and successful. I have learned to never give up, everyone makes mistakes, and everyone has something to contribute. After every game I scrutinize my mistakes. I recognize my limitations and work on improving them every day.
Athletically I am a little smaller, but I make it up with my speed, agility, and drive to succeed. I am a very coachable athlete. I listen to what everyone says, try it and I am able to pick out what is best for me to keep improving. I have played volleyball since sixth grade, and my love for the game has grown ever since. I have played as a hitter, setter and defensive specialist. In my sophomore year, I played up for the seventeen’s as the setter and was selected to play on the Badger Regionals National team as a DS. This year our high school volleyball team took second in the State tournament. I also play high school and club basketball, high jump for high school varsity track team, and manage to play in a few beach volleyball tournaments during the summer. As a youth, I was a gymnast and a dancer on a National Champion Dance team.
Academically, I balance a heavy load along with the sports I play. I have had to be very organized to handle this much activity and maintain a strong GPA. I know what I am attempting to do is challenging, but for me I embrace the challenge. I hate to lose, but understand that in order to become a champion or successful in life, you have to learn how to lose.
