Personal Statement

I'm Margot and I started playing water polo my freshman year (I am now a Junior). Before that, I was in the water swimming or in the stands cheering on my sister. At the start of high school, I quickly discovered that I had a natural talent for the sport, and of course, it helped that I had some prior aquatic experience. I love water polo because of the team aspect and the physicality. It is a tough sport that requires both strength and a strategic understanding of the game, and there are always new things to learn. Within the last couple of years, I've grown, not only in height but as a player. I learned from my mistakes, my coaches, my teammates and my opponents.

The most important part of water polo to me is teamwork. You can’t win a game by yourself. Throughout high school and club seasons, I have been seen as a leader because of my positive attitude and good sense of humor. I’ve discovered that my attitude towards opponents greatly influences my teammates and I’ve learned to not get defeated after a loss and instead to learn from it and share that knowledge with my teammates.

Coaches and spectators often comment on my long wingspan, which allows me to steal the ball from my opponents, and along with my speed, am able to convert these counters to goals. In sophomore year I had 70 steals followed by 49 assists. My coaches praise my anticipation, my accurate passing, and my love for the game as after every play I always have a smile on my face.

I believe that my biggest strength is my ability to stay organized and plan in advance as that is a key component that is needed when you are a student-athlete taking honors and AP classes. I have learned to balance my time very wisely and choose my priorities carefully.

One advantage I possess is not playing water polo for a long amount of time. The shorter exposure allows for focus and rapid skill development, as I am motivated to make quick progress. The motivation I had freshman year still lives as I am aware of the many things I can improve on.

My goal is to play water polo in college because I don’t want high school to be the end of my competitive playing. I haven't been playing for the longest time but I've made so many good memories from the sport and I wish to make even more with new teammates if given the chance. I strive to play any division hoping to continue the balance between school work and water polo in college.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
