Aloha, My name is Katelynn Halekulani Kayo Kubo. I am currently a senior at Kamehameha Schools Hawaii Campus. I was born and raised on the Big island of Hawaii. My parents are Christian and Heather Kubo. I have one older brother and one younger sister. I am very interested in playing water polo at the collegiate level. I have been playing water polo since my freshman year in high school. The position I compete as is sprinter, driver and utility. I am a starter on the Kamehameha High School varsity water polo team. I have been a starter since my freshman year. After my sophomore year I was named as an All Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) First Team member. Since my freshman year my team and I have won 3 Big island Interscholastic Championships. During my junior year I was named the “2015 Player of the Year for the Big Island Interscholastic League”. I was also apart of the “B.I.I.F. First Team”. Since my freshman year my team and I have placed 5th in every Hawaii High School Athletic Association (HHSAA) championship. I have gotten 2 letters so far in my water polo career for my freshman and sophomore years. In water polo I know that you have to swim a lot. I have been swimming my whole life. I started swimming at a novice level when I was eight years old. I then started my age group club career when I was 11 years old. My club team is known as the Hilo Aquatic Club. I am currently the senior Swimmer's Representative for the team. Swimmers are welcome to come to me for their problems or concerns. I have been swimming for Kamehameha Schools Hawaii Campus varsity swim team since a freshman. I have been awarded 3 letters for my swimming career in high school. During my sophomore-swimming career I finished third in the Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) Championship in the 50-yard freestyle event. During my junior year I finished second in the Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) Championship in the 50-yard freestyle event. I also finished third in the Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF) in the 100-yard butterfly event. I currently hold a 3.574 cumulative grade point average. I take electives like Japanese language 4 and Band 4. I also attended an Advanced Placement World History class. I am currently apart of the National Honor Society, where I volunteer and help my community. I enjoy school for the learning and relationships that it allows me to have.I have very distinct characteristics. I’m outgoing, responsible, and show leadership while being humble. I love to try new things and meet new people. I know when to work and when to play. I really enjoy and cherish my experiences with my teammates. They are apart of my family and they push me everyday to do my best in an out of the pool.
