Personal Statement

Hello! My name is Miia Anjala and I am currently a 15 year old freshman (class of '27) living in London. I have been playing competitively for the West London Penguin swim and waterpolo club for the last 2 years. I have done swimming all my life, and have experience on a swim team before I discovered my passion for water polo. I am proud to have become the starting center forward (2M) for my club's U17 team during our national championship run (we won silver), and to have been the leading scorer for my team in the recent U16 Swim England Talent Center Tournament. I have also competed in U16, U17, and U18 local, county, regional and national tournaments on both girls and mixed teams and have recently been invited to play for my club's women's team alongside other top performing junior players.

I am a hard worker, attending training 5-6 times a week, and take every opportunity I can to gain new knowledge and techniques to further develop myself as a player. I am excited to go on this journey and see myself develop as I gain more experience, and can’t wait to continue growing my skill and mindset. I try to go into every practice and game with a positive attitude, and intend to push myself to accomplish great things in the future. As a Centre Forward I pride myself in not only being strong enough to dominate the pit, but also in having the speed to drop down and defend on every play.

I attend Southbank International School, a highly competitive International Baccalaureate school, where I am considered a top student. I aim to find a university that helps combine academic excellence with a top quality water polo program.
