Hello! My name is Kiera McGuire and I am a junior at Mercer Island High School in Washington. I want nothing more than to play water polo at a collegiate level. I began playing water polo during my freshman year of high school to improve my speed for the swim team, but as soon as I played in my first game, I fell in love with the sport. In college, I plan to prioritize my academics to excel in my future workplace, but I would love to continue to play the sport that I love past high school to keep myself grounded and surrounded by a group of girls who share the same love for the sport as I do.
There is not a day that goes by where I am not excited to go to practice and learn something new. I strive to be a leader inside and outside of the pool and enjoy being challenged by my fellow teammates and coaches. I am always up for a challenge, and rarely am faced with a challenge that leaves me believing “I can’t.”
Away from the pool, I enjoy spending time with my family, swimming in the lake with friends, and going on hikes with my dog, Cooper. I love painting in my free time and working as a swim instructor and lifeguard in the summers.
I appreciate you taking the time to read my statement, and I welcome you to follow me through my journey transitioning from a high school student-athlete to a collegiate student-athlete!
