Personal Statement

I started wrestling in 7th grade after convincing my mom to let me try and completely fell in love with the sport. I excelled at the middle school level quickly, and got invited by our local club coach to go to kids state at the end of the season where I got a reality check on the fierce level of competition out there. I worked hard in the off season and have continued to each year which led me to qualifying for state as a sophomore in 2023 in the blood round of my regional tournament. I returned to regionals in 2024 and won the championship match qualifying for state again as a junior. I have yet to place at state, but I plan to work harder than ever through this off season so that I can place as a senior in 2025. I love that this is an individual sport and that when I get out on that mat it’s just me and my opponent. I have developed my skills to be able to read a match and even change the speed or force my opponent to wrestle my style. Even though I love that wrestling is an individual sport, I also love that it’s a family community. My teammates are like family to me and I love to help them to further develope their skills and to cheer them on.
