Wrestling has helped me grow in a positive direction throughout my high school career. My junior year I became team captain and a masters qualifier which placed a great deal of responsibility on my shoulders. I had to motivate the team, help young wrestlers, resolve conflict, and, most importantly, lead by example. It was scary but wrestling has made me a better leader. It has improved my communication skills and helped me become stronger mentally and emotionally.

The traits I’ve learned from wrestling apply to other aspects of my life as well. I’ve become a better brother to both my younger brothers Brandon and Jayden. I set high expectations for myself so I provide a good example of how being diligent in what one does pays off. I want them to know big brother is always doing his best. I feel wrestling has prepared me for obstacles I’ll have to overcome later in my life. At times I felt discouraged in things that I was involved in but one wrestler told me something that I’ll remember for many years to come. He said, “If you ever feel like quitting remember why you started in the first place.” This reminds me that I’m always trying to improve my character, help others, and change things for the better because someone’s actions can inspire others to learn more, do more, or become more. I want to show people that it’s never crowded along the extra mile. Finishing fourth in the state tournament serves as motivation to keep moving forward and challenging myself until I’m in the top spot. I take pride in how far I’ve come in my life and I have faith in how far I’ll go.
