When I entered high school in August of 2021 I was completely unaware of how the sport of wrestling was about to impact my life. As a Freshman I was new to the sport, and had never been exposed to the culture surrounding wrestling. I decided to go out for the wrestling team as a freshman, partially based on a comment from one of my teachers that I "had a wrestler's build". Trust me when I say what an eye-opener my first season was! I truly had no idea the impact this sport would have on me beginning with that first day of preseason training.
When I write this statement today, I say with pride that wrestling is an incredibly important part of my life. Throughout these last couple of years, it has shaped me both physically and mentally. It has made me become very self-disciplined to condition and train, as well as helping to build the mental fortitude to push myself past the limit. It has given me a drive to improve as a player and the passion to find ways I can contribute to my team’s success. It has taught me to value my team as my extended family, and the importance of the closeness of the wrestling community. And now I can promise to bring good character, and the highest mental and moral qualities to your team.
On a personal level, I have a good natured and funny personality, and get along with coaches and teammates. While I have an intensively competitive spirit and drive for continuous improvement, I have a positive attitude and I can follow and take direction. I look to learn something from every victory equally as from every loss. Through the three years that I have been training I have been constantly immersing myself in the sport, and due to this I have been exponentially improving. Considering I started as an entry level wrestler my freshman year and progressed enough to qualify for states my sophomore year, I am very motivated to see the progress of my continued hard off season work during my upcoming year. I have been training with a local club, attending camps and clinics within the state, and have also traveled out of state to attend the University of Nebraska wrestling camp over the summer off-seasons. I am happy with the new friendships I have made across the community while expanding my skills.
In terms of academics I have been able to find the balance of constant hard work in both wrestling and the classroom while maintaining a 4.7 gpa while taking high level (honors, concurrent enrollment and advanced placement) courses. I am looking forward to finding a school that is academically suited to support my desire to major in engineering, as well as giving me continued involvement in the wrestling community and as much mat time as possible!!
